Weekend Getaways near Delhi NCR - Make the most of 2 days

These days Trekking has become the new cool. With Delhi NCR becoming the new job city more and more college graduates are moving to Gurgaon/Noida for work and they often wonder what can they do in the weekend (assuming 5 days working week). There are many things that NCR offers
  • For a foodie, there are places like Chandni Chowk, CP, paranthe wali gali, Seetaraam Deewanchand ke chole bhature, Rajendra da dhaba for non veg lovers etc.
  • For the party lover and a social animal, Gurgaon is the place for you
  • For people having interest in historical monuments Delhi is full of it.
But when it comes to people with interest in travelling, two days doesn't seem enough. For all those newbies who are looking to make the most of these two days, kindly continue reading it

Weekends which starts from Friday evening to Monday morning, there are lots of places but I'll take you to the mountains as most of my trips are there only:
  • Rishikesh: a beautiful, tranquil city in the foothills of Himalaya. Lots of activities to do like Rafting, Camping, Bunjee jumping, Rappelling, trekking, kayaking etc. You can take bus from ISBT to Haridwar or direct Rishikesh, it'll take around 6-7 hrs.

  • Lansdowne: if you don't want to do any adventure activity mentioned above, just want to sit & enjoy the nature then you can try this. Again you can take bus from ISBT to Haridwar and from there Lansdowne or if you like biking, then you can take bike/scooty on rent from Rishikesh too.
  • Mcleodganj: a beautiful town of Dharamshala, HP. Lots of places nearby to visit like Dalai Lama temple, Shiva Cafe near the Bhagsu rivulet (waterfall). You can go on Triund trek - a 4hr trek which starts from Galu temple and you can camp at night on the top, enjoy the nature and come back next morning. I took the bus at around 11pm from ISBT reached there around 9:30am next morning. For return I took direct bus from Dharamshala at around 6:20 pm to Delhi.

  • Parashar Lake Trek(8–9km)/Bijli Mahadev Trek(3–4km): You’ve to reach Mandi, HP and from there you can take city bus to Baggi(base point) for Parashar lake, for Bijli Mahadev trek there is direct bus to bijli Mahadev Village you can ask exact name on the Bus stand. For a first time solo trekker I wouldn’t recommend the Prashar trek as this is a proper trek unlike Triund or Bijli Mahadev which are for hiking but there are direct bus to the top as well in which you have to trek just 1–2 km.

P.S Take tent and sleeping bag with you for a great experience.
